Young Researcher Award

Description

One of the key objectives of the FISU World Conferences is the recognition and promotion of junior scientists and the fostering of state-of-the-art research. Accordingly, the FISU Young Researcher Award for World Conferences’ presenters recognizes outstanding young leaders in research and is awarded in the framework of the FISU World Conferences organized in odd-numbered years. The award will be granted to a paper presented during a FISU World Conference at the World University Games – Summer and Winter – authored by a current Ph.D. graduate student or who has earned a Ph.D. within the last two years. Of the submitted papers - reviewed by a panel of judges – the Education Committee of FISU will grant the award to the highest quality paper that demonstrates considerable originality, critical thinking, and analytical ability.

 

Eligibility

1.The award applications are open to FISU World Conference presenters who are under the age of 35 at the time of the Conference. 

2.The applicant must be either a currently registered doctoral student or a holder of a Ph.D. within the last two years at the time of submitting the paper.   

3.The submission must be a single-authored paper. 

4.FISU will accept only one submission per applicant.


Requirements

1.Candidates are to submit a 5000-8000 word (excluding references) scholarly paper on a topic that is in line with the main theme or one of the sub-themes of the Conference and must be an original paper that has not been previously submitted to any other Conference (please use the allocated template).

2.The total length of the submitted paper should not exceed the maximum word limit of 8000 words; otherwise, it will not be considered. 

3.The author should submit a cover page that contains the title of the paper, the full contact information, and description on how the submitted paper significantly advances and contributes to the better understanding of sport, particularly university sports. 

4.The author’s identity must not be recognizable in the submitted text.

5.The author should submit a letter, duly signed by her/his academic advisor(s), verifying the student’s current Ph.D. status or already earned Ph.D. awarding (bestowing) date. 


Selection

1.An expert panel assigned by the Education Committee of FISU will review the submitted papers. 

2.Of the submitted papers, the Education Committee of FISU will grant the award to the highest quality paper, from both the natural and social sciences, which demonstrates considerable originality, critical and analytical ability, practical implications and significant contributions to the better understanding of sport, particularly university sports. 


Award

1.The Education Committee (EduC) will announce the award at the FISU World Conference during the World University Games – Summer and Winter – organized in odd-numbered years. 

2.The award also includes a certificate of recognition. 

3.In addition, FISU will promote the awardee’s work through its communication channels (website, social media).

4.FISU will consider the available opportunities to host a webinar for its member associations during which the awardee will present his/her work.
