Chengdu 2021 FISU World Conference

 (Second Round)

As approved by the International University Sports Federation (FISU), Chengdu FISU World Conference will be held during the 31st World University Games. FISU World Conference is the highest-level educational activity of the International University Sports Federation, and also an integral part of the FISU World University Games. With a history of over 60 years, the conference is held by the organizing committee in the same city (district) as the World University Games. This year, the conference is hosted by FISU, directed by the Federation of University Sports of China (FUSC) and Chengdu Municipal People’s Government, and organized by the Chengdu 2021 FISU World Conference Organizing Committee.

The organizing committee of the conference will invite representatives from international authoritative organizations such as the UNESCO, IOC, FISU, and academicians of the Chinese Academy of engineering, Olympic champions and other 12 guests to deliver keynote speeches, sharing the most advanced and cutting-edge academic resources and promoting the integration and innovation of university sports science research. We welcome all experts and scholars who are engaged in university sports and related research fields to participate in this conference. 

l  Conference Time: Opening ceremony - afternoon of 29 July, 2023. 

                   Duration - three days

l  Conference Location:  Crowne Plaza Hotel Wenjiang, Chengdu, Sichuan Province (619B Fenghuang North Street, Wenjiang District, Chengdu, Sichuan Province)

l  Conference Format: Online-offline combined 

l  Conference Registration: Registration fee is 1000 RMB (which includes lunch, coffee break, conference package, cultural activities in Chengdu, participation certificate, and paperback conference proceedings). Accommodation and travel expenses are not included.

l  Conference accommodation: Besides Crowne Plaza Hotel Wenjiang, other options are available at a price range of 300-1000RMB/day, participants need to book hotel rooms in advance.

l  Themes: The main theme is “University Sports: Embracing a Colorful World”, with four sub-themes. The four sub-themes of the conference are as follows:

1.  Sports and a better city          

2.  Health in an interactive life      

3.  Technology for a smarter future           

4.  Culture in a more inclusive world

l  Collection of Manuscripts:

1) Excellent manuscripts will be recommended for publication in the international journal “Sports Medicine and Health Science”

2) The conference proceedings will be published (a second volume).

l  Conference Awards: In order to encourage young scholars to get engaged and participate actively in scientific research, the conference has set up “ Young Researcher Award” for 1-2 candidates. 

1. Description of Young Researcher Award

One of the key objectives of the FISU World Conferences is the recognition and promotion of junior scientists and the fostering of state-of-the-art research. Accordingly, the FISU Young Researcher Award for World Conferences’ presenters recognizes outstanding young leaders in research and is awarded in the framework of the FISU World Conferences organized in odd-numbered years. The award will be granted to a paper presented during a FISU World Conference at the World University Games – Summer and Winter – authored by a current Ph.D. graduate student or who has earned a Ph.D. within the last two years. Of the submitted papers - reviewed by a panel of judges – the Education Committee of FISU will grant the award to the highest quality paper that demonstrates considerable originality, critical thinking, and analytical ability.

2. Eligibility

1)      The award applications are open to FISU World Conference presenters who are under the age of 35 at the time of the Conference. 

2)      The applicant must be either a currently registered doctoral student or a holder of a Ph.D. within the last two years at the time of submitting the paper.  

3)      The submission must be a single-authored paper. 

4)      FISU will accept only one submission per applicant.

3. Requirements

1)      Candidates are to submit a 5000-8000 word (excluding references) scholarly paper on a topic that is in line with the main theme or one of the sub-themes of the Conference and must be an original paper that has not been previously submitted to any other Conference (please use the allocated template).

2)      The total length of the submitted paper should not exceed the maximum word limit of 8000 words; otherwise, it will not be considered. 

3)      The author should submit a cover page that contains the title of the paper, the full contact information, and description on how the submitted paper significantly advances and contributes to the better understanding of sport, particularly university sports. 

4)      The author’s identity must not be recognizable in the submitted text.

5)      The author should submit a letter, duly signed by her/his academic advisor(s), verifying the student’s current Ph.D. status or already earned Ph.D. awarding (bestowing) date. 

4. Selection

1)      An expert panel assigned by the Education Committee of FISU will review the submitted papers. 

2)      Of the submitted papers, the Education Committee of FISU will grant the award to the highest quality paper, from both the natural and social sciences, which demonstrates considerable originality, critical and analytical ability, practical implications and significant contributions to the better understanding of sport, particularly university sports. 

5. Award

1)      The Education Committee (EduC) will announce the award at the FISU World Conference during the World University Games – Summer and Winter – organized in odd-numbered years. 

2)      The award also includes a certificate of recognition. 

3)      In addition, FISU will promote the awardee’s work through its communication channels (website, social media).

4)      FISU will consider the available opportunities to host a webinar for its member associations during which the awardee will present his/her work.

2. Please complete the registration and submit the abstracts online (registration must be done by the first author).

3. Submission deadline: March 10, 2023. 

4. Abstract submission requirements:

1). The author shall ensure the authenticity and objectivity of the content of the paper, and shall be responsible for the article. The abstract is required to have not been published publicly, and there is no academic misconduct.

2). The format (WORD) requirements are as follows:

All wording should be in English utilizing; correct spelling, grammar, and proper contextual word usage. All acronyms are required to be first fully defined at least once within the body of the abstract prior to any other uses. No brand names are permitted within the submitted abstract. All abstract submissions must follow formats demonstrated in the examples below. 

a.     The abstract’s main body should be limited to 300-600 words (not including spaces / title / subheadings / author block). 

b.     The title of the abstract is limited to 15 words. 

c.     For subjects in natural science, we suggest that the body of the abstract includes the following “sections”: PURPOSE, METHODS, RESULTS, CONCLUSION. There is not restriction on the content of the abstract for social science articles. 

d.     Include the names, institutional affiliations, and emails of all authors. Names should include full first name, middle initial (optional), & full last name. DO NOT list degrees, certifications. 

e.     Reference citations, photos, illustrations, graphs, tables, charts, etc. are NOT permitted within the abstract’s text. 

3). Each person can only submit 2 abstracts as the first author.

5. Submission process instruction:

6)    Submit papers.

l  Registration of conference:

1)      Paper review result will be available early April, 2023.

2)      Conference registration, registration fee payment and participants information collection will start mid April, 2023. 

3)      Conference schedule will be available in May, 2023.

4)      Conference will be held late July.

l  Further Notes:

1. Papers submitted and accepted previously (in the previous round) are already edited into the conference proceeding. Please do not re-submit previous papers.

2. Participants who have submitted before (in the previous round) do not need to register again; if you wish to submit a new paper, please use your previous account. Information updates could be made if needed.
